Technology Director Carmel High School Mundelein, IL |
| What I liked best about the CTER OnLine program: | I liked the interaction with other teachers, especially being able to get new ideas on using technology in the classroom. I also liked not having to commute to attend classes. |
| How I managed to fit the coursework into my hectic life: | Not having to spend time commuting helped reduce the time spent getting the degree. Our groups were able to meet online at times which were convenient for us.If we weren't able to participate in the weekly class chat, it helped to be able to read the the class log and/or listen to the tape of the instructor's audio transmission.Having an understanding and helpful husband also helped :-) |
| CTER OnLine has impacted my professional career in the following ways: | I have been able to use many of the projects in my role as technology director. My school is expanding upon the Intranet I created in the first class. We are posting forms, instructions, tutorials, course syllabi and more on it. I have incorporated the Network handbook into the Intranet also. I have a better understanding of adult learning as a result of the Adult Learning and Development class. The math sequence enabled me to offer a training session this summer for Geometer's Sketchpad. I have a better understanding of ethics and copyright as related to education. I learned how to prepare a streaming Power Point tutorial this summer and will be preparing additional tutorials for the faculty.Last, but not least, I learned that my workshops for the faculty should not only teach them technology skills, but also encourage them to create a project for classroom use. |
| Have you had any major life changes you'd like to share? (marriages, births, new jobs, etc.) | No, but I think I've set a good example for my two adult daughters by showing them that it's never too late to go back to school. They are both very proud of their mom. |
| My most memorable experience in the CTER OnLine program: | One night I was uploading my incomplete assignment to the LRS server at 11:59 p.m. I wanted to have the date show it was uploaded on time. I would finish and edit the assignment after midnight, but I wanted the assigned date to display. I theorized that no one would realize it wasn't finished when I originally posted. But I forgot about Paul who's up all hours of the night. The next morning, on the webboard for all to read, was a message from Paul that my URL wasn't working and things seemed to be missing. He looked at my posting in the fifteen minute time period between 11:59 p.m. and 12:15 a.m. when I posted the finished product. Thanks Paul, for blowing my cover! |
