Technology Coordinator

Neoga Community Unit School District #3

What I liked best about the CTER OnLine program:  The new mantra in technology integrated education is learning at "anytime, anyplace at any pace". I enjoyed putting that mantra to the test in the CTER program. I plan to continue working in the area of online learning, armed with the invaluable knowledge I have gained from this program. I also greatly enjoyed the co-hort approach to the program. I am missing my classmates and CTER staff already, which speaks highly of the caliber of this program, and the professionals associated with it.
How I managed to fit the coursework into my hectic life:  Discipline and determination!! I didn't realize how much of either of those until we were finished. I had forgotten what it was like to go an entire day without thinking about class work or assignments. I was able to fit the coursework into my hectic life because I had tremendous support from my family. My husband (we were married during my first semester of CTER) did his best to encourage me ( including doing dishes and dealing with the constant busy signal of our phone). My extended family encouraged me, an d reminded me of how great it would feel when it was finished (they were right).
CTER OnLine has impacted my professional career in the following ways:  During the last part of the CTER program I was the coordinator for a distance learning consortium, as well as Illinois Virtual High School Staff Member ( the 4, the proud, the overworked). I believe my being hired was a direct result of my involvement in the CTER program. I am returning to the K-12 environment, and again the CTER program spoke volumes for my commitment to technology in education. As I said earlier, I wish to continue my involvement in online learning, and my experiences in the CTER program will provide the necessary foundation for those endeavors.
Have you had any major life changes you'd like to share? (marriages, births, new jobs, etc.)  Mike and I were married October 30th, 1999. This was CTER 2's first semester in the program.
My most memorable experience in the CTER OnLine program:  My most memorable experience was hearing Chip Bruce (instructor for our first course) speaking over real audio. I caught myself just as I was started to respond to him verbally, instead of typing in the chat window. I was in the lab after school, and it wasn't long before I had a crowd of teachers around me, checking out the new technology.
