What I liked best about the CTER OnLine program: The Online class allowed me to work on school work at my convenience. The best thing about this program is that it practices what it preaches about active engaged learning and reform methods of teaching.
How I managed to fit the coursework into my hectic life: I have children that are 2 year old, 6 year old and a 16 year old. The 2 year old was born the year I started the program. I worked 8 hours a day and 5 days a week. My job as a technology coordinator has kept me very busy. The only time I had free was after the kids all went to bed. From 9:30 until 11:30 each evening I would read and do my school work. Often when papers or projects were due I would work later hours and both days of the weekend. It was exhausting but it was worth the experience and knowledge gained. My wife and kids are glad it is over and I can spend time with them.
CTER OnLine has impacted my professional career in the following ways: The depth of the CTER program taught me things that have helped me in my job as technology coordinator and exposed me to things I would have never experienced otherwise. Things such as: evaluation methods, grant writing, engaged learning, web based learning, ethics with technology, virtual classrooms, filtering of the Internet, how students learn and the impact of technology in our schools. I could go on because this class is rich in what it offers to teachers."
Have you had any major life changes you'd like to share? (marriages, births, new jobs, etc.) My son Sean was born during the CTER program. I switched jobs half way through the CTER program. I was the Technology Coordinator for Danville School District and I am now the Technology Coordinator for St. Joseph-Ogden High School.
My most memorable experience in the CTER OnLine program: We interacted with numerous online chats and we got together several times to talk and present our work. What will remain in my mind about the CTER program is the many talented friends I made during the 2 years of the program.
