JodiNA's personal recorder (recording) has arrived.

JodiNA asks, "Hi! Are we supposed to be here for the tour?"

JimL says, "The tour is in an hour, I'm here for the optional office
hour before the tour. yes, here."

JodiNA says, "I got it backwards."

JimL says, "I hope I have it right. You can stay, or look at TAPPED IN,
or go and come back - whichever."

JimL says, "I think that Judi Fusco is going to lead us, and she gives a
            good TAPPED IN tour."

AllisonD finds her way in.
AllisonD's personal recorder follows AllisonD to here.
JimL says, "Hi Allison."

AllisonD says, "HI, I had a hard time finding this room."

JimL asks, "You here for the optional office hour?"

JodiNA asks, "I can come up with a question! The troubleshooting
reaction are we supposed to write about the troubleshooting
for this program or troubleshootingwe have had with
              computers?"

JimL says, "If you want, you can make this your "home" so you start out
here when you get into TAPPED IN."

JimL says, "Either, Jodi."

AllisonD asks, "How do I do that?"

JodiNA says, "Ok."

JimL says, "I think you type /sethome"

JimL says, "try that and see what it says"

KathleenJH has arrived.
KathleenJH's personal recorder (recording) has arrived.
AllisonD says, "I/sethome"

JimL says, "Hi Kathleen."

AllisonD exclaims, "Ok it worked!"

JimL says, "start the line with the "/""

EliseJ has arrived.
EliseJ's personal recorder (recording) has arrived.
KathleenJH says, "Hi --I found my way."

JodiNA says, "I clicked on the campus map, and then up to the 5th floor.
It was faster then going up by one floor at a time."

JimL says, "so, now go somewhere else, Allison, and then type /home"

JimL says, "Yes, Jodi, the campus map helps get around more quickly."

JimL says, "Hi Elise."

AllisonD leaves for the SAC.

JodiNA says, "I actually was in a real hottub this weekend."

JimL says, "We'll gather there Thursday for our discussion with Linda
            Polin."

JimL says, "Sounds good, Jodi."

EliseJ leaves for the HT.
EliseJ's personal recorder (recording) leaves for the HT.
JimL asks, "Did you get the Wizard of Oz reference, Allison?"

EliseJ finds her way in.
EliseJ's personal recorder follows EliseJ to here.
AllisonD says, "Ok, it worked. I tried to get into 511, but it was
someone else's office. I decided to see who was online,
and I found you all. But weren't we meeting in 511 (and
yes, I liked the Wizard od Oz thing)."

JimL asks, "We're in E511 - maybe you were in N511, S511, or W511?"

JodiNA asks, "How come we are the only two people in the room?"

JimL says, "Click on the "update" tab, and you'll see there are really 4
            of us here."

KathleenJH comes home.
KathleenJH's personal recorder follows KathleenJH to here.
JodiNA says, "I can still read all the comments, but the names of the
              other students don't appear."

JimL asks, "Did you click on the Update tab above the "Who's here"?"

JodiNA says, "COOL"

AllisonD asks, "Jim, is this where we get the virtual tour later?"

JimL says, "Yes, the virtual tour starts in about 45 minutes."

JodiNA says, "I have a softball game."

EliseJ says, "I can only stay about 15 minutes into the tour. Hope it's
              okay."

JimL says, "Sure, that's fine Elise. You can explore on your own, and
I'll post the complete log of the tour."

EliseJ exclaims, "Great! Thanks!"

AllisonD asks, "I just completed the Network Learning assignments, and I
have a question. If I pick a web based project, can it
be as simple as communicating in Spanish?"

JodiNA says, "I saw the log of the two office hours. That was neat to
read what was said if you weren't there."

JimL asks, "If there are other folks there who'll do that with you, that
should work. Wouldn't it be more interesting, however, to
            have some topic focus?"

JimL says, "I'll put links to all the office hour logs and other
            synchronous sessions."

AllisonD says, "I would want to follow my curriculum as far as topics,
but that might not mesh with someone else. Also, their
ability to communicate is limited, so I'm not sure what
type of project we'd do. I'd have to think about it."

JodiNA leaves for the 5th.

JodiNA has arrived.
JodiNA's personal recorder (recording) has arrived.
JimL says, "Allison, look around to see if others have found interesting
ways to link up different Spanish speaking classes, including
            relative novices."

VanessaU has arrived.
VanessaU's personal recorder (recording) has arrived.
JimL says, "Welcome Vanessa."

KathleenJH says, "Talk to you during the tour everyone."

VanessaU says, "I was in the west wing."

KathleenJH writes on the whiteboard...
JimL asks, "Did you say hi to Martin Sheen?"

VanessaU says, "Funny, I am actually a West Wing nut."

AllisonD says, "I am trying to see what other Spanish teachers have
done, but maybe I'm not looking in the right places.
Todya I found some good links, so I'll search them more."

KathleenJH writes on the whiteboard...
JimL says, "I'll look also, Allison."

JodiNA exclaims, "I just got the west wing joke. I am slow, but it is
                  Monday!"

AllisonD says, "Thank you Jim. I'll see you all in an hour! :) Alli
                Drew"

AllisonD has disconnected.
JimL says, "Yes, it would be easier if it were Wednesday night."

VanessaU says, "I hate Mondays. I have a question about the
                troubleshooting database."

JodiNA says, "i probably still would have taken me a while to get the
              joke."

JimL says, "Sure, go ahead Vanessa."

JimL says, "Some of my jokes are pretty obscure, Jodi."

VanessaU says, "I really haven't had any problems. Anything that has
                happened recently is pretty lame."

JodiNA exclaims, "I think my brain is slower in the summer!"

JimL says, "Just note down any problems, Vanessa, even the lame ones."

EliseJ exclaims, "I don't have that problem. My log already is filling
                  up!"

JimL says, "Maybe you can share some with Vanessa :-)"

EliseJ says, "LOL"

VanessaU says, "Really, I may not be doing it right."

JodiNA says, "I have a few problems from the new stuff, but i also had a
              few problems on my own."

EliseJ says, "That makes me feel better, Jodi."

KathleenJH goes out.
KathleenJH's personal recorder (recording) goes out.
JodiNA says, "I always call my dad"

JimL says, "Even if you call upon someone routinely, it helps to write
            down what the problem is."

JodiNA says, "I guess that is why i live in the same city! He can run
              over to help me."

VanessaU says, "I ask my husband everything."

JimL says, "I find that sometimes, when I write down the problem, that I
then think of what the solution is."

JodiNA says, "I ask my bears, but they don't usually respond, so then I
              go to my dad."

JimL says, "Write down the problems you have when your husband or dad
            isn't immediately available."

VanessaU says, "I find that sometimes I just need to read the little
boxes that come up carefully, instead of impatiently
                clicking them closed."

JodiNA asks, "We are supposed to write those down along with teh
              reactions of the paper, right?"

JimL says, "Yes, even when you don't understand them, it helps to write
down what they say, since they're often understandable by
whoever you go to for help."

VanessaU asks, "Does the tour start here at 7?"

JimL says, "Yes, you keep a log (throughout the course), enter it into
            the Troubleshooting Knowledgebase."

JimL says, "Yes, at 7, vanessa."

JimL says, "Then for the assignment for this week, you look at your log
entries, react to them, read the paper and react to that."

VanessaU exclaims, "Well, I'll be back at 7. I'm off to get a little
                    work done on my project!"

JodiNA says, "OK. I need to get something to eat, so it digests before
my game. I will read the notes of what took place. Thanks
              for the help."

JimL says, "ok, cu later."

EliseJ says, "I will be back around 7, too."

JimL says, "ok, see you at 7"

VanessaU goes out.
VanessaU's personal recorder (recording) goes out.

KathleenJH has connected.
KathleenJH teleports to the reception.
BrianW has connected.
JimL says, "Hi Brian and Kathleen."

BrianW says, "Hi Jim"

JimL asks, "How's it going? Did you find this room easily?"

BrianW says, "A lot easier than fixing my eportfolio"

JimL asks, "Still a struggle, eh?"

BrianW says, "I finally got on a computer with win 2000 and got it fixed"

JimL asks, "Great - hopefully things will go a lot more smoothly now.
Did you log all your struggles?"

BrianW says, "Still writing them down, I was going to do that tomorrow"

JimL says, "That's fine."

JimL says, "The tour will start at 7pm (in a half hour)."

MaryEB has arrived.
MaryEB's personal recorder (recording) has arrived.
JimL says, "Hi Mary."

BrianW says, "I will be back in half an hour, I going to explore a
little more. I already looked into the After school online
room and found some interesting things."

JimL says, "Okay, Brian, see you a bit before 7."

BrianW goes out.
BrianW's personal recorder (recording) goes out.
JimL asks, "How's it going, Mary?"

MaryEB says, "hi, I've been trying to get the e-mail link to work on my
eportfolio. It's right on my desktop, but Composer is
puttint it in a different folder. I'm not sure how to
change the properties on the images and the links so that
              the server can find them."

MaryEB says, "It's been trying."

JimL says, "When you save from Composer, you might want to use Save As
so you know where it puts thing."

JimL says, "For the email list, just hilight the email address in
Composer, then click on the link tool (looks like a little
            chain link)."

JimL says, "email link, that is."

MaryEB says, "I have been saving that way, but the properties keep
attaching an e-portfolio directory to the images"

JimL says, "Yes, that's a pain - just keep taken all that stuff out."

JimL says, "By the way, you don't have to download your eportfolio
everytime you want to work on it. You can just keep
modifying the copy on your local computer."

MaryEB says, "I got the link to change on the desktop copy, and even on
the server, but when I checked it on the webboard it was
              still wrong."

JimL says, "Did you remember to "reload" or "refresh" in your browser."

JimL asks, "That is, to click the reload or refresh button?"

JimL says, "(reload in Netscape; refresh in Internet Explorer)"

MaryEB says, "I have been changing only the one on the desktop and then
trying to copy it to the server. Yes I refreshed and then
even logged off and logged in again"

JimL says, "Sometimes when I run into this, I rename the version on the
server, then copy over the new version."

JimL says, "That way I definately KNOW that the new version got over to
            the server."

JimL says, "The othe possible problem is that you have multiple versions
on your local computer, and you're changing one but copying
            over another."

JimL says, "Use the "Find" command to see if you have multiple copies,
and delete all those you don't want."

JimL says, "(You're logging all these troubles into your trouble log,
            right :-)"

MaryEB asks, "Of course on Sunday, after I changed the portfolio. The
changes did not seem to take place in the server it told me
it encountered an error in the copy. So I e-mailed tech
support and got an answer. When I went in to make the
changes they suggested, the portfolio was okay. I'm not
sure if they corrected the problem or what. I'm planning
on copying my e-mails to my log. Is that okay?"

JimL says, "Good idea."

MaryEB says, "Well, I think I better go make supper before the natives
get restless, I hape to get back for part of the tour."

JimL says, "ok, that starts at 7, and will probably continue for about
            an hour."

MaryEB has disconnected.

KathleenJH says, "I was having a problem with http error messages in the
                  libary"

TonyaD exclaims, "Hey Jim!"

JimL asks, "What kind of error, Kathleen?"

TonyaD says, "Hey Kathleen"

KathleenJH says, "Hi Tonya"

JimL says, "How's it going, Tonya."

KathleenJH says, "The http error 404--I'm having a problem linking"

TonyaD says, "Not bad--I've been looking at Outlook tutorials; they are
              very$$$"

JimL says, "That means a broken link - the web page that was linked from
            there is not available."

JimL asks, "There must be a ton of free ones?"

KathleenJH says, "Oh good--I thought that may be it."

JimL says, "Did you go to your favorite search engine and type in free
            Outlook tutorial"

TonyaD says, "I have found some but they are text only. I found one
that used some pictures--I may try a different search
              engine tonight:"

TonyaD says, "Yes I used microsoft outlook tutorial free"

JimL says, "You might look on microsoft.com to see if they have others
            also."

TonyaD says, "I searched using Yahoo, Google, and Startingpage.com"

TonyaD says, "I did go to Microsoft.com and I didn't find anything for
              free"

TonyaD says, "the one sight I found with pics was partially sponsored by
              MS"

KathleenJH leaves for the HT.
KathleenJH's personal recorder (recording) leaves for the HT.
JimL says, "Okay, I just did free Outlook tutorial on Google and it
returned a bunch, but of course I haven't looked at them."
