JodiNA has arrived.
JodiNA's personal recorder (recording) has arrived.
JimL asks, "Hey, Jodi, how's it going?"

JodiNA asks, "I am OK, and you?"

JodiNA says, "I think I am getting worried about my final project."

JimL asks, "Fine. All set for Linda Polin's guest appearance tomorrow
            night, 7pm?"

JimL asks, "Why worry?"

JodiNA says, "Yep. I have it highlighted"

JimL says, "Be happy."

JimL asks, "What are you worried about?"

JodiNA says, "I was thikning that maybe it doesn't need to take all
              year."

JimL says, "That's fine if it is shorter than a year."

JodiNA says, "guess I am worried about getting the computer time"

JimL asks, "What's your situation at your school?"

JodiNA says, "I was planning on starting in the classroom discussing
character ed with them and doing projects there before we
              move upstairs."

JimL says, "Good idea - you can do a lot off the computers in
            preparation."

JimL says, "Then the computer time can be used much more effectively."

JodiNA asks, "when we get upstairs, how do i get them to add links?"

JimL asks, "Are these links they find while in the computer lab?"

JodiNA says, "I was looking at some of the projects, and it kinds
reminds me of hyperstudio with the different doors we can
              click."

JodiNA says, "the web site I havefound has them go to different places."

KathyKD has arrived.
KathyKD's personal recorder (recording) has arrived.
JimL says, "Welcome Kathy."

JodiNA exclaims, "Hi Kathy!"

KathyKD says, "Hi Jim. It is nice to finally be here."

JimL says, "That's one way to organize things, Jodi. There are others."

JimL asks, "Good to see you here, Kathy. Did you log all your trials and
            tribulations?"

JodiNA says, "It seems like they are just looking at something that has
              already ben made."

KathyKD says, "I ran out of room."

JimL says, "Jodi, you can start them with a framework which they extend."

JimL asks, "Not enough memory on your computer, Kathy?"

JodiNA says, "OK. I really like the idea od Random Act of Kindness."

JimL says, "Build on that, then."

JodiNA says, "OK. Thanks."

JimL says, "Did you get more memory, Kathy, or a less memory-intensive
            browser."

KathyKD says, "No. I haven't been able to get onto the site. I spent
much of the night Monday downloading different programs
and much of the day with TAPPEDIN tech support and my ISP
               tech support."

JimL asks, "So are you using a separate text chat mechanism?"

KathyKD says, "No, that wouldn't work either."

JimL says, "The log our our guided tour and of the office hours are
available, if you want to see what happened."

JimL asks, "How did you finally get on?"

KathyKD says, "I am dialing in on AOL and then minimizing it and opening
               IE."

JimL says, "oh,okay, that works."

JimL asks, "So it was the AOL web browser that was the problem?"

KathyKD says, "I found out that our local ISP must have a firewall. The
main ISP is trying to find out why the local site has one
               up. They aren't too happy."

JodiNA has lost her link.
KathyKD says, "No, I don't nomally use aol. I was dialing in through
               ENC."

JimL says, "Okay, in any case the important thing is that you're on."

KathyKD says, "Yes. What a relief."

JimL asks, "Have you had a chance to explore TAPPED IN yet?"

KathyKD says, "I did over the weekend at my mom and dad's."

JimL says, "Lots of interesting stuff and lots of interesting people."

KathyKD says, "not in great detail though"

KathyKD asks, "You said the tour is availible to view?"

JimL says, "Look mostly on the first and second floors. The other
            floors are mostly private offices."

JimL says, "Yes, here it is (a new window open - when you're done, close
it and you'll be back here)."

JodiNA has connected.

JimL says, "THis is also links from our class web page."

JimL says, "linked, i mean."

JodiNA says, "Sorry, my computer kicked me off/"

JimL says, "Not a nice thing for it to do,Jodi."

JodiNA exclaims, "It loves me!"

JimL asks, "And it didn't want to share you with us?"

JimL exclaims, "a jealous computer, what a concept!"

JodiNA says, "I do think I have my questions answered. I do know where
to find you if I have anymore. I guess it is selfish."

JodiNA says, "It needs to read the articles we did."

JimL says, "Okay, remember to get here (actually in the hottub room next
door) a few minutes before 7 tomorrow."

JodiNA exclaims, "will be there. I want a spot to sit in the tub!"

JimL says, "Nice thing about virtual hot tubs - there's always room for
            more."

JodiNA says, "Great! I will see you guys tomorrow."

JimL says, "Cu tomorrow, Jodi."

JodiNA has disconnected.
JimL asks, "Kathy, you there?"

KathyKD says, "yeah, just looking through the tour."

JimL says, "ok, go ahead. Just wanted to check."

KathyKD says, "I really hate to miss it. I was quite aggrivated."

KathyKD says, "live and learn."

JimL says, "If you want, you can go down to the reception, and one of
the volunteers might be willing to give you a tour."

KathyKD says, "I'll be fine. I am just excited I am finally on here at
               home."

JimL says, "Great - we'll be meeting in the hottub room (next door)
            tomorrow with Linda Polin."

JimL says, "I suggest folks get them a few minutes before 7pm CDT."

JimL says, "get there, I mean."

KathyKD says, "Your wife was saying Sunday at orientation that this is a
very fertile program. Please pass the message along that
their are now two expectant mothers in CTER 5."

JimL says, "Wow, congratulations! Also we have an expectant father (if
            that's the right term)."

BrianW has connected.
KathyKD says, "So there are three now. Wonderful! This was quite
unexpected and timing isn't great but you take it when the
good Lord gives it to you."

JimL asks, "When is the big day predicted, Kathy?"

BrianW waves hi

JimL says, "Hi Brian."

KathyKD says, "Not sure yet. I have an appointment next week. Probably
end of January or beginning of February."

KathyKD says, "Hi Brian."

JimL says, "Kathy just passed on some big news."

BrianW says, "Hi Jim and Kathy"

BrianW asks, "What's the big news?"

JimL says, "There are now THREE expecting CTER5 folks."

KathyKD says, "We are having another baby:)"

BrianW says, "Congratulations Kathy"

KathyKD says, "thankS"

BrianW says, "Jim, I had a question about the Networks for learning
project we are supposed to find."

JimL says, "Sure, go ahead."

BrianW asks, "Should we pick a project that we can do this summer or one
we can do with our students in the fall?"

JimL says, "Hopefully one that could be piloted with a few folks in July
and then if that works out, you could do with your students
            in the fall."

JimL says, "You'll be piloting a network project as part of your 2nd
            course."

KimberlyAF has connected.
JimL says, "Hi Kim, welcome."

KimberlyAF says, "Hi!	"

BrianW says, "Okay, wasn't sure about the time frame. There are a lot
of good projects, unfortunately many have passed their
              deadline"

JimL says, "Yes, timing is an issue, but there are lots out there, so
hopefully you can find one with the right time frame."

BrianW asks, "Thanks, we are meeting with Linda Polin tomorrow at 7
              Central time, correct?"

KimberlyAF says, "I had a Tapped In question.	"

JimL says, "Yes, 7 Central Daylight. In the hottub room (next door) - I
recommend being there a few minutes before 7."

JimL says, "Sure, what's up Kim."

KimberlyAF says, "I have visited several times just getting acquainted.	"

BrianW says, "THanks, I am going to enter some trouble shooting stories.
               See you tomorrow."

KimberlyAF says, "I did not go on the tour on Monday, but had a tour on
                  the weekend.	"

JimL says, "CU tomorrow Brian."

KimberlyAF says, "Bye, Brian! "

KathyKD says, "I am going to go exploring."

BrianW goes out.
BrianW's personal recorder (recording) goes out.
JimL says, "Cu later Kathy."

KathyKD goes out.
KathyKD's personal recorder (recording) goes out.
KimberlyAF says, "I was trying to move around without it saying "Kim
                  says...."	"

KimberlyAF says, "Everything that I was typing in came up, "Kim says..."
                  though.	"

JimL says, "To issue commands (like moving), you either start the line
with a "/" slash, or you type the command and click on the
            Send button."

KimberlyAF says, "What should I be typing? I noticed in reading the
Polin article that she is going to want us to move!	"

JimL says, "But better yet, for moving, the best bet is to use the map
and just click on places you want to go."

KimberlyAF says, "Ohhhh....	"

JimL says, "Well, for Linda's appearance, we'll probably spend the whole
time sitting in the hottub (hope we don't overheat :-)"

KimberlyAF says, "I was able to move around the map fine. It just
seemed like a lot of the examples from the article
involved picking things up and moving around.	"

KimberlyAF says, "As long as we are just talking and listening (reading)
                  I'll be fine!!	"

JimL says, "Did you see the "cheat sheet" I put together that should be
linked from the syllabus? That has the basic actions on it."

KimberlyAF says, "I have the cheat sheet right in front of me, but still
wasn't able to get myself moved anywhere without it
                  saying, "Kim says..."	"

JimL says, "She may ask us to sit at the hottub. So you'd type /sit
            at the hottub"

JimL says, "For example, type /ht"

JimL says, "Kim, did you try typing /ht"

JimL says, "that should take you to the hottub room."

KimberlyAF says, "I typed /hot tub, but it said it wasnt a recognized
                  command!	"

JimL says, "just /ht"

KimberlyAF says, "It still said That's not....	"

KimberlyAF says, "Hmmmm...	"

KimberlyAF says, "Ok, so you all go in the hot tub, I'll sit in the room
                  and talk! :)	"

KimberlyAF says, "I guess I'll just click on it	"

JimL says, "Well, you can also just click on the word "Hottub" in the
            map."

KimberlyAF leaves for the HT.

JimL asks, "Did you click on "out" or type /out?"

JimL says, "out"

KimberlyAF says, "Clicked out	"

JimL says, "inventory"

JimL says, "oops."

KimberlyAF says, "I'm glad I stopped in to ask you. Talk about
troubleshooting. I can never tell what is me and what
is my computer not behaving!	"

JimL says, "In any case, you'll be fine with the map navigation."

KimberlyAF says, "I guess that will get easier over time!	"

JimL says, "let's try this. Type /sethome"

JimL asks, "what did that do?"

KimberlyAF says, "Ok, thanks. Also, I am working on my ePortfolio
situation. I am not able to work on it from my home
                  computer.	"

KimberlyAF says, "After /sethome, it said that CTER is my new home	"

JimL asks, "Why can't you work on that on your home computer? The
            firewall problem?"

JimL says, "Okay, now when you enter TAPPED IN, you come right here :-)"

JimL says, "And if you go somewhere else, you can type /home and
            you'll be "teleported" here."

KimberlyAF says, "No. I have Windows 98 version 1, and you need version
2 or above. We bought Windows 2000 and installed it
but my internet hookup won't run with it installed. so
                  we took it off	"

JimL says, "Not very nice of Windows."

KimberlyAF says, "I am still working on the situation. Spent hours on
the phone with Microsoft and At&T	"

KimberlyAF says, "Initially upon loading it, we thought I lost all my
                  school files!	"

KimberlyAF says, "Talk about a troubleshooting story! I did write it
all down on the log!	"

JimL says, "I've heard bitter complaints about Microsoft's new "repair
CD" - that it "repairs" your computer by reinstalling, wiping
out everything you had on the disk previously."

JimL says, "Oh, and then they say "What, you didn't backup your files?""

KimberlyAF says, "I guess that is what we had going on. We decided to
deal with Win98 version 1 for now until we can talk to
someone who can give us more info!	"

KimberlyAF says, "Well, some things are backed up, but not all!	"

JimL says, "Unfortunately we all backup only AFTER we start losing
            things."

KimberlyAF says, "Ok, so I guess I'm all set for Thursday's hot tub
visit. Thank you for your help!	"

KimberlyAF says, "Bye!	"

JimL says, "okay, I'll look for you tomorrow - bye."

JohnKit says, "Hi Jim. I'm early."

JimL says, "Hi John, actually, this is the end of today's office hour,
            sorry."

JimL says, "But there will be another tomorrow right after Linda Polin's
            guest appreance."

JimL says, "appearance"

JohnKit asks, "oops I'm supposed to meet Vannessa and Tonya. Were they
               here?"

JimL says, "No, Kim and Kathy and Brian were here, but not Vanessa and
            Tonya."

JohnKit asks, "It's Weds. 4 pm CDT right?"

JimL says, "What's up? I have a few minutes before I have to leave to
pick up my daughter? Ready for the guest appearance tomorrow
            night 7pm CDT."

JimL says, "Yes, Wed 4pm. now."

JohnKit says, "We are going to conference the white paper. but two
               quickies for you"

JimL says, "Sure, ga."

JohnKit says, "One: on Tom's patio, you mentioned an exchange re: open
               source programs versus MS."

JohnKit says, "I'd be interested in the reference if you get a moment"

JimL says, "yes, very insightful response by a legislator from Peru, if
            you can believe that."

JimL says, "I'll look for it and send you the URL."

JohnKit says, "That was the one. thanks."

JohnKit asks, "Other thing is minor. What's with TI closing my window?
               just something to live with?"

JimL says, "Here's one URL:
            http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/25157.html"

JimL asks, "What do you mean closing your window?"

JohnKit says, "closes it when I log on. Oh, thanks, I'll mark that URL."

JimL says, "Here's another:"

JimL says, "http://www.opensource.org/docs/peru_and_ms.php"

JimL asks, "Is that a problem that it closes the window?"

JohnKit says, "Not really. I just like to have multiple windows open to
               reference things. Just wondered."

JohnKit leaves for the 5th.
JohnKit's personal recorder (recording) leaves for the 5th.

window or all of your open browser windows."
